Sink your teeth into an array of sweet potato pies whipped up by our amazing bakers, and dive into the rich legacy of the man behind this beloved event. Rules 2024

Eligibility

The contest is open to all individuals who wish to showcase their sweet potato pie baking skills. There are no categories for entry, welcoming both amateur and professional bakers.

Judging

Pies will be evaluated by a distinguished panel of local celebrity judges.
Judging will be anonymous; pies will be presented without identifying the baker to ensure impartiality.

Each pie will be assessed based on the following five criteria:

Taste - Flavor should be the primary focus, with a well-balanced sweetness.
Presentation - Appearance matters; pies should look as good as they taste.
Creativity - Unique takes on the traditional sweet potato pie are encouraged.
Crust - The crust should be well-executed, complementing the original filling.
Overall Impression - The pie as a whole will be evaluated for its overall quality and appeal.

Prizes will be awarded for the top two pies

3rd Place
An additional “People’s Choice” award will be given based on public voting.

People’s Choice Award

All attendees will have the opportunity to taste the pies and vote for their favorite.
The pie receiving the highest number of votes will earn the “People’s Choice” award.

Entry Fee

There is no entry fee required to participate in the contest.
In the spirit of community and giving, participants are encouraged to bring a toy for the Robert "Say” McIntosh Stop the Violence Toy Drive.

Contest Rules

Pies must include both a crust and a filling. The filling must prominently feature sweet potatoes as the main ingredient. (Creativity is encouraged!)
Only one entry per household is allowed.
Each pie must be entered under the name of the person who made it.
All pies must be made from scratch; store-bought pies or crusts will not be accepted.
We recommend using an 8" or 9" non-returnable pie dish, as pie plates will not be returned.
Pies that require refrigeration will not be accepted, as refrigeration is unavailable.
For judging, contestants must provide two identical pies. An additional three pies are required for community sampling.
All entries and contestants must arrive at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center by 12:30 PM on Sunday, November 3rd. No entries will be accepted after 12:30 PM.
Pre-registration is mandatory. All entry forms must be submitted to the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center by 5 PM on Thursday, October 31st.

No entries will be accepted on the day of the contest.
