Join Ms. Glenda and the DCC Education Staff for our Depot Discovery Day program on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in the DCC Depot Museum, starting at 1 p.m.
Featured today will be "Bad News for Outlaws: The Remarkable Life of Bass Reeves, Deputy U.S. Marshall" by Vaunda Micheaux Nelson. Illustrations are done by R. Gregory Christie. It was written in 2009.
Deals with the fascinating life of Bass Reeves, who escaped slavery to become the first African American Deputy U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi River. With his wide brimmed hat and twin Colt pistols on his belt, he was bigger than life in the Old West.
Reading Age: 7 - 12 years and Grade Level: 3 - 6.
A special guest from the U.S. Marshall Museum is expected.
Refreshments will be served.
