Let us all shout “Huzzah!” It’s the 248th birthday of our great nation. For this old-fashioned event, we’ll have crafts, activities, demonstrations and patriotic fun. You can make a paper cockade, which is a pin usually made from ribbon and worn on a hat or clothing—red, white and blue would be particularly appropriate for the day. We’ll also be printing an 1836 article about Arkansas’s admission to the union in June of that year—news traveled slowly so the celebrations largely took place on July 4. You can join the parade on the grounds and listen to a rousing reading of the Declaration of Independence. And we’ll treat you to some tasty watermelon and cold lemonade.
