In 1991, Patsy Montana marched in the 65th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, after which she and her fellow marchers received a plaque commemorating the experience. The plaque consists of a photograph of Montana and her comrades in their parade outfits and an inscription that reads, “Macy’s 65th Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade; 1991; ‘Those Who Rode’ for the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center.” The plaque currently resides in the Old State House Museum’s permanent collection.
Patsy Montana was born Ruby Rose Blevins on October 30, 1908, near Hot Springs, Arkansas, and left Arkansas in 1930 for Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. She became known as Patsy Montana after Stuart Hamblen saw her perform with the Montana Cowgirls on the KMIC show that he hosted with cowboy Monte Montana. Patsy went on to perform on various national radio shows, including the popular 'National Barn Dance,” and she appeared in several films. She passed away on May 3, 1996, and was soon after elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame.
