ELABORATION
The present church grew out of the Spring Creek Baptist Church which was founded in 1867 by Reverend J.C. McCray. This church was located approximately
five miles northeast of Forrest City. In 1908, a new, young minister, Reverend J.R. Burdett encouraged the congregation to begin raising money for
a new church, and in 1909 the construction began. With Mr. J.R. Donague as the contractor, the first brick church for a black congregation in Forrest
City was completed by 1914. The church was expanded with the Education Annex added to the rear in 1977. This modern facility was dedicated under the
present pastor, Reverend Sherman W. Baker. This church is a significant example of generations of black religious leadership in Forrest City.
