In addition to releasing five albums, Shannon has written over one hundred songs with classrooms and has created curriculum on units such as cowboys, fables, immigration, famous Americans, and the for the Amazeum Museum in Bentonville, Arkansas which plays each day at the museum. She also wrote and performed in the Walton Art Center and Trike Theater’s “Bear State of Mind.” She enjoys introducing the craft of songwriting to students that provides a rich learning experience for student. Available to conduct teacher workshops.
Shannon uses songwriting as a tool to deepen the students understand of various subject matters. Not only does songwriting in the classroom foster teamwork, but it also provides students an opportunity to express themselves. Armed with an acoustic guitar she guides students through the writing process: pre-write, write, revision, editing, and publishing. Teachers or students can choose the topic or let the process happen organically. By the end of the session, which ranges from two days to nine weeks, students will have created a music video with their song.
