I specialize in portraiture, and while I work in a variety of mediums, working with a common ink pen on bristol paper characterizes much of my recent work. Some advise pulling back on wrinkles, blemishes, spots, etc. for aesthetics; and where request or resolution demand it, that is appropriate. However, request and resolution issues aside, I find such details to be inseparable from their subjects. Especially in working from lower quality photographs which may be the only source material a client can provide, such nuances make up the lifeline of likeness. While we may not be keen on how we look, we are who we are. Why detract from or add to it?
