My work blends contemporary and traditional media—combining performance, video, sound, and representational oil painting. Using the language of humor and absurdity, I create visual puns and riddles on my pilgrimage for the sacred and profound. I am inspired by historic forms of the human figure—particularly those seen in devotional art. The symbolic gestures, objects, and rituals in Medieval and Renaissance art heavily influence my subject matter, and I am intrigued by the cryptic expressions of these periods and the religious themes that permeate. My work provides a platform to puzzle at these historic concepts, allowing them to be reconsidered in modern terms. For me, making art is a means of cultivating a poetic soil from which I contemplate my spiritual faith. By this means, art enables me to explore the intangible and helps me navigate the tensions of religion, theology, and contemporary culture.
