I strive to create beautifully crafted, whimsical pieces. I feel that fine art does not have to be somber and I often strive to insert humor in my art. I use animals frequently as my subject matter, sometimes simply rendering them in my work, but often combining them with human elements. This kind of anthropomorphism is greatly inspired by storytelling, fables, and popular culture, all of which have shaped my compositions over the years. Many of my pieces are small, inviting the viewer closer and creating a more intimate space between the viewer and the art. My background is in printmaking and the majority of my work is influenced by that medium. I often work in layers, building, scratching, or carving away to form new planes and surface textures. My goal is to create art, that when studied closely reveals hidden designs and elements that are undetected by merely glancing at the work.
