Monica Jordan is a high school art teacher, self-taught artist, and Arkansas native. She works mostly in collage, intentionally and meticulously tearing, cutting, and layering scraps of assorted paper to create dynamic paper “paintings.” Her style has been described as “pop folk,” uniquely blending vibrant colors and contrasting textures to render her vision. She enjoys creating eye-catching interpretations of pop culture icons, animals, and majestic landscapes ranging from the beloved Buffalo National River to the beaches of Corona del Mar. “It’s gratifying to collect materials that would otherwise be discarded,” she says, “and being able to combine and repurpose them to create something entirely new.”
