All wood was once a living thing, and in its remains are contained the mystery and the beauty of its life, revealed by the grain, color, and density. This visually recorded history gives added meaning to my work, imbuing the simplest forms with a nuance and complexity that could not be attained with any other medium. Each sculpture I create conveys a personal opinion, observation, or feeling, because that is the great gift of 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional art - the freedom to communicate in a way that transcends the written or spoken word. If the viewer can see my intent, alongside the story of the wood, then I have been successful.
