My work as an artist is primarily the product of process-driven art-making and encompasses a range of styles and media. Some of my more abstract work begins with a basic plan consisting of a subject and a set of materials. I like to combine layers of materials and intricate compositions to create new worlds within the work of art. The result often feels busy and chaotic when viewed up close but more refined and controlled when viewed from further away. These works rarely have an underlying message or idea. However, some of my more recent representational work is a reflection of my thoughts on motherhood and mental health. Many of my pieces in both styles utilize imagery from nature as well. As an artist, it is sometimes hard to come to terms with the idea that I don’t have a bigger message behind my work. However, for me, it is enough that the act of creating brings happiness into my world, and hopefully, the finished pieces bring happiness to others.
