Registration Deadline for Heritage Month Events Fast Approaching on March 9
Only a few more days are left until the deadline of March 9 to register Heritage Month events online, via mail or fax on the official Heritage Month Calendar. This free service is provided by the Department of Arkansas Heritage, which has sponsored Heritage Month each May since 1982 to celebrate the state's cultural and natural history. Groups and organizations registering their programs will receive the following benefits, all free of charge:
• Inclusion of the activities and projects in the Heritage Month Calendar of Events on the agency's web site
• Media publicity through news releases and the official Governor's Proclamation of Arkansas Heritage Month.
• Copy of the collectible Arkansas Heritage Month poster.

We really want to encourage all Arkansans to list their Heritage Month events with the Department of Arkansas Heritage so we can help promote them. Heritage Month has become a popular tradition in our state over the last 20+ years, one that helps draw us together as Arkansans and learn more about our heritage and history.

This year's Heritage Month theme is Only In Arkansas: Exploring our Natural Heritage. Throughout the month of May, Arkansans are invited to explore the natural riches that exist only in Arkansas and organize events that highlight the state's diverse and unique natural heritage. Projects may include nature walks, field trips, science programs, visual art contests focusing on natural sights, "only in Arkansas"-based plays, puppet shows or music productions, the development of nature trails through a park, planting of native plants around public properties, and more. Who we are has a lot to do with where we are--a message that clearly proclaims that Arkansas heritage is worth knowing and celebrating.

Organizations planning Heritage Month events are encouraged to register online at www.ArkansasHeritage.com by clicking on the Heritage Month icon and following the prompts. Groups without Internet access may submit their registrations by fax at (501) 324-9154 or mail to Arkansas Heritage Month, c/o Department of Arkansas Heritage, 323 Center Street, Suite 1500, Little Rock, AR 72201. All information should include: name of organization, address, city, contact person, phone, event title, date(s), time, place, admission fee or other requirement, additional sponsors and a brief description of the event. All registrations must be received by March 9, 2009.
