“LOUIS JORDAN” MAKES A STOP AT THE OLD STATE HOUSE MUSEUM
February 4, 2009

LITTLE ROCK--On February 6th through 8th, one of Arkansas’s greatest musicians, Louis Jordan, will come alive at the Old State House Museum. Louis Jordan will be available to hourly guided tours 9 - 5 Friday and Saturday, and 1 - 5 Sunday. Take advantage of this great opportunity to meet one of the great personalities in both Arkansas and music history.

Louis Jordan was born in Brinkley, Arkansas, on July 8, 1908. From a humble beginning playing the clarinet and traveling the South with vaudeville “minstrel” shows, Jordan went on to become one of the most influential jazz-band leaders and saxophonists in music. After leaving segregated Arkansas for better opportunities in northern cities, Jordan and his band, The Tympany Five, became enormously successful during the 1940s. His style of jazz made him a chief architect of R&B music and a key influence on the future musical style of Rock & Roll. During his career, he had eighteen number one R&B hits (an achievement second only to Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder) and fifty-four top ten R&B hits. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.

Call the Old State House Museum at (501) 324-9685 for more information.
