LITTLE ROCK--

Public Art Project Planned to honor Peg Newton Smith Historic Arkansas Museum Foundation issues Request for Qualifications from Arkansas artists. LITTLE ROCK (August 20, 2007) – Historic Arkansas Museum Foundation is issuing a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for Arkansas artists and design teams for a design competition to create a permanent sculptural piece of public art. The piece will be installed on the museum’s Second Street Entrance Plaza between Scott and Cumberland streets. The Historic Arkansas Museum Foundation has $200,000 in private funds reserved for the project. The deadline for responding to the RFQ is 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 12, 2007.

The sculpture will be created to honor the memory of long-time volunteer and museum commissioner Peg Newton Smith. Commissioner Smith had a life-long commitment to Arkansas artists. She started both the museum’s Gallery for Arkansas Artists and Museum Store in 1973. This call is to all professional Arkansas artists or design teams. Individual professional artists and multidisciplinary teams including artists, urban designers, architects, civil engineers and landscape architects are eligible. All teams must include an Arkansas artist as lead consultant and also include a person with public art experience.

To request the RFQ document or to view the site, please call Louise Terzia, director of development, 501-324-9307 or email louise@arkansasheritage.org.
