IT’S AN ARKANSAS ARTIFACT AFFAIR
April 19, 2007
LITTLE ROCK--Sub: Objects from Arkansas’s Past will be Evaluated and Appraised at the Old State House Museum
Perhaps you’ve wondered what to do with Uncle Junior’s political campaign button collection. Or if there was any historical value in Great Aunt Betty’s Andy Griffith items (she was an extra while he was in Piggott filming A Face in the Crowd). Maybe you just have some photos of grandmother and grandfather’s Ozarks road trip, but aren’t sure that anyone else would find them interesting. Well, Saturday, May 12, 2007, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., you’ll have a chance to find out. And it’s totally free.
At the Arkansas Artifact Affair, the Old State House Museum will be looking for objects of Arkansas history—memorabilia, photographs, books, letters, and more. The public is invited to bring their objects to the museum where each may be examined, documented, and photographed.
Howard Norton, appraiser, and Bob Devan, conservator, will be on hand to provide expert advice on how to care for special items. At 10:30 a.m., you can also attend a short workshop on the preservation of paper objects. Participants can even arrange to donate items to the museum, so they can be appreciated by Arkansans for generations to come.
The Old State House Museum is interested in any item related to Arkansas history, especially:
• Criminal Justice
• Law Enforcement
• Military History
• Movies
• Old State House
• Ozark Culture
• Politics
• Sports
• Women’s History
All items must have an Arkansas connection. And did we mention that admission is free? For more information on attending this exciting event, call (501) 324-9685.
