TRADITIONAL HOLIDAY FUN TO BE FOUND AT THE OLD STATE HOUSE MUSEUM’S HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE
November 22, 2006
LITTLE ROCK--The traditions of joyous family holiday celebrations of the past can be relived at the Old State House Museum’s annual Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 3, 2006, from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.
Visitors of all ages will find something to enjoy and participate in, with plenty of hands-on activities available to children to create unique seasonal items like ornaments and cards. There will be lots of delicious cookies and punch, and the Old State House Museum Store will be open for holiday shopping. Songs of the season will be sung by local choirs in the museum’s 1885 House of Representatives Chamber.
Museum holiday open houses may have become a modern tradition throughout Little Rock, but there’s also something new for this year. The Greater Little Rock Museum Consortium has coordinated several of these open houses to make the entire weekend more festive. The weekend of family fun kicks off Saturday afternoon, December 2, with the annual Holiday Parade through downtown Little Rock, and the State Capitol Lighting Ceremony; these events begin at 3:30 p.m.
While the Holiday Open House at the Old State House Museum is held, families can also participate in the 39th Annual Christmas Frolic and Open House at the Historic Arkansas Museum, and Holidays at the Arsenal, held at the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History. The Historic Arkansas Museum celebrates the holidays with living history characters, live music, dancing, and their famous hot cider and ginger cake. The MacArthur Museum of Military History will feature seasonal military music and refreshments.
Admission to all events is free. For more information about this exciting weekend of holiday events, please call (501) 324-9685.
