Holiday Open House and an Evening of Rockabilly Music
November 16, 2006
DELTA CULTURAL CENTER--The Delta Cultural Center presents an evening of “Rockabilly Music” on Saturday, December 2, at 7:00 p.m. in Helena’s Malco Theater. The concert features “Rockabilly Hall of Fame” members Mack Self, C.W. Gatlin, and Jimmy “Lefty” Evans. The event is free and open to the public.
Mack Self is a native of West Helena who recorded for Memphis’ Sun Records in the 1950s. His hits include “Vibrate,” “Mad at You,” and “Easy to Love.” Jimmy Evans was a session musician at Sun Studios and has worked with both Conway Twitty and Ronnie Hawkins. He has been a solo artist since the early 1960s. C.W. Gatlin performs with his own band and has also worked with Ace Cannon, Paul Burlison, and many other artists. Gatlin and Mack Self both recorded with the “Rockabilly Masters” group.
On December 2 the Delta Cultural Center will also host our annual Holiday Open House. Come join our staff at the Visitors Center for refreshments throughout the day. Enjoy our current exhibits “Helena, Arkansas: Main Street of the Blues,” a display of recent additions to the Delta Cultural Center collection, and watercolor works by Diana Charles. Take time to visit the Delta Cultural Center Depot for a guided tour. Both facilities will be open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The evening concert will begin at 7:00 pm at the Malco Theater.
