Performing Arts: Quote

Arkansas has a proud heritage that has been passed down from one generation to the next since the origin of statehood. Much of that heritage has been passed to us through the performing arts. Arkansas's history makes for a fascinating story. And our performing arts have provided an educational and entertaining way to allow that story to unfold. Arkansas's heritage comes to life through the sound of a stringed instrument, the tap of a dance shoe and the performance of an actor on stage. What better way to preserve Arkansas's heritage than through the talents of her people.

  • Music - listen to some samples of Arkansas music from downhome fiddling to classical piano, blues tunes and jazz vocals. RealPlayer required (free download).

  • Dance - from clogging to ballet.

  • Theater - Search Arts on Tour theater category to find theatrical presentations, visit Arkansas Historic Preservation Program for historic theaters listed on the National Register, and tour the Historic Arkansas Museum for living history reenactments.

  • Storytelling is an art found throughout the state, including at the Arkansas Arts Council and Historic Arkansas Museum and at many activities held in May, which is Arkansas Heritage Month.
