The theme for Arkansas Heritage Month 2007 is "Our Business is Heritage: Preserving. Protecting. Promoting." During the month of May, Arkansans are invited to celebrate our state and local heritage with special events and programs. It's important to know where we've come from and how it affects our future.
What aspects of your local history have been saved and protected or should be protected? Many Arkansas communities have made a conscious decision to preserve and protect their historic buildings and downtowns. Many hold celebrations around a specific aspect of their local heritage, such as music, agriculture, recreation or ethnic history.
Heritage Month is the time to promote such unique qualities to your community, the surrounding area and the entire state. Schools in the community might sponsor drawing, poetry or photography contests. Entire festivals may be planned around a community and its local heritage. Tours of historic homes or districts could be offered. The possibilities are as broad and varied as your imagination.
Arkansas Heritage Month is a time to join with others around the state in preserving, protecting and promoting our history by hosting a special Heritage Month event. Join with us as we recognize Arkansas heritage.
